PROGRAMS

Aim For The Net will run and support basketball programs at various times and locations throughout the year. The intervention and prevention program will provide effective strategies to keep high-risk youths in school, drug-free, and prevent their involvement in the child welfare or juvenile justice system. The program will consist of three components designed to provide positive leisure time activities: Recreation Program A basketball league will be conducted for the youth. The league will include teams for both boys and girls. There will be approximately 6 to 8 teams, and each team will have approximately ten players. Each team will play one game a week. The organization will recruit youths, coaches and other volunteers. The organization will register youth, verify ages, and schedule league games. The coaches will receive training and provide as positive role models. Education Enrichment Program During the school year, there will be tutoring and homework assistance provided for the youth. There will be several qualified tutors available during each tutoring session. Some educational supplies (computers, internet access, pens, pencils, paper, etc.) will be available for all participants. The Director, with the assistance of the coaches, will be responsible for monitoring the grades of all participants. A record will be maintained of all report card grades. Any student who is failing will be required to attend tutoring sessions. Anti-Violence, Drug Prevention & Life Skills Workshop The best way to prevent our youth from becoming caught up in drugs or violence is to educate them on how to keep it from happening. We hope to educate the youth through anti-drug and life skills (anti-violence) presentations, workshops and seminars. During the workshops we will cover such topics as self-esteem, self-respect, problem solving, and the importance of staying in school. As part of our prevention strategy, we will also use print, audio and video media. All participants involved in the program must attend the workshops if they want to participate in the recreation program (basketball league).
